Pattern Ties
What tie knot should I use / How should I tie my tie?
A tie knot that suits any type of collar, is formal enough without being stuffy and has been favored by stylish men for nearly a century is the four-in-hand knot (also known as a simple knot or schoolboy knot).
The tip of the tie should roughly meet your belt buckle, your tie shouldn't be any shorter than your belt line, and if you can tuck it into your pants then it's too long!
When you've finished tying your tie, the two blades should be the same length, though this typically depends on your height.
Tips for Choosing a Tie
The neck tie is just as important piece of your suit as your jacket or pants. Our advice is to keep it simple and when in doubt, a white shirt with a dark tie will always look good. If you’re wanting to venture outside this combination here are some tips to consider when choosing a tie:
1. Fabric is an important consideration for choosing a tie, and when in doubt go for silk. Whatever tie material you choose, always make sure that it knots properly (dimple in the knot) without sharp corners or edges.
2. Classic is always in style. When attending a wedding or any other formal event, a simple tie (solid colour or simple patterning) is always a good option.
3. The rule of thumb for tie width is that it should be no wider than the widest part of the lapel on your suit jacket. The knot should also be in proportion.
4. Choosing a colour can be difficult. The best way to tackle this is to bring your shirt into one of our stores and match it up with the ties you are intersted in to see if they match. Our friendly staff are happy to help!
Cuff Links
When choosing cufflinks it's important to take into consideration what else you'll be wearing, make sure for example if you have gold rings, that you choose cufflinks with some gold in them. It's always better to err on the side of caution and go with simpler cufflinks, especially if you're going to wear a bold patterned shirt.
Pocket Square
The simplest form of pocket square is plain white linen, but we carry a variety of patterns and colours to suit your taste.
Pick a pocket square the compliments your clothes, not one that matches them. Try colours that pick up the secondary colours in your outfit, like the stripes on your shirt or the check of the suit. Don't match your pocket square to your tie
